Bernard, an American businessman living in Paris, is juggling love affairs with three air hostesses (as they were called back in the day), who touch down briefly but lovingly in his apartment between flights. There’s Gloria, the American; Gabriella, the Italian; and Gretchen, the German. Thanks to Bernard’s keen study of flight schedules and the efficiency of his grumbling French housekeeper, Berthe, his three mistresses have no inkling of one another’s existences. But when his old college pal Robert visits, things get rather turbulent! Schedules change, flights are delayed and chaos ensures in this hysterical, high flying fiancé fiasco!
"UP, UP & AWAY! 'Boeing-Boeing' is PURE PLEASURE and UNCONDITIONAL BLISS! It soars right out of its time zone and into some stratosphere of classic comedy. A DELICIOUS, DELIRIOUS PRODUCTION."
–Ben Brantley, The New York Times
The Cast:
Bernard- (20’s-30’s) energetic, flirtatious and charming. Completely satisfied and oblivious with his situation.
Robert – (20’s-30’s) naïve to the romantic side of life. He’s from Wisconsin where life is a little slower. Think a Northwestern Woody Allen.
Gabriella- (20’s-30’s) the sentimental, lusty Italian; very much like a young Sophia Loren.
Gloria- (20’s-30’s) the take-charge, health-obsessed American. Very much a cheerleader rather than an air hostess but definitely brings a new meaning to service with a smile.
Gretchen- (20’s-30’s) the dominating militant German. Her lower register would scare any man into marrying her.
Berthe- (30’s-50’s) chic, black-clad philosopher, a French existentialist maid who loves nothing more than to complain.
****Please Note that the ability to speak in dialects is very important to this show****
