New Haven's first Love Story - Free Staged Readings

In association with Bregamos Community Theater, NHTC will presents a series of free public staged readings of Allan Appel's THE EXCOMMUNICATION OF MRS. EATON.

Sat. Nov. 7 - 1pm to 3pm - New Haven Museum and Historical Society (114 Whitney Ave)
Sat. Nov. 14 - 1pm to 3pm - Strong School (69 Grand Ave)
Sat. Nov. 21 - 1pm to 3pm - Center Church (250 Temple St)

Made possible with the support of the City of New Haven Mayor’s Community Grants Program and through the support of the New Haven Museum and Historical Society.

About the Show:
The Excommunication of Mrs. Eaton is a six-person trial play and a theological love story in which John Davenport, the most powerful clergyman in severely Puritan New Haven Colony accuses Anne Eaton, the wife of the colony’s Governor Theophilus Eaton, of opening the door to heresy in the new colony. Her theological sin is that she does not believe in the baptism of infants. At that time when the Puritans saw their lives as preparation for paradise or damnation, infant baptism was as much a passionate a red button as perhaps abortion is in our own time. Though she is a “weaker vessel,” as women’s minds were deemed at the time, Anne is very much her own woman, a daunting theological opponent. For that treason Davenport is fearful of debating her in public. Instead, he drives a wedge into Anne and Theophilus Eaton’s already stressed marriage, trawling for more easily prosecutable domestic sins, thus forcing both Anne and Theophilus to choose between their love and marriage and their faith and the fortunes of the struggling colony.

SOCCER MOMS FROM HELL (SMFH) by Richard Cummings is the winner of the New Haven Theater Company 2009 Pick Our Play Contest, which asked the audience to submit and then vote on a play for NHTC to produce. SMFH is a hard hitting satirical farce that makes fun of everyone. Set in the upscale suburbia of Darien and Greenwich, CT, two families are pushed into revolt by the appearance of a ghostly figure from the 60’s. In the pot filled haze, sex, drugs and rock n’ roll are debated along side politics, social justice and family values. No one is safe, and everyone is to blame.

NHTC Presents Glengarry Glen Ross

Tickets are only $10. NHTC will produce Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet, Thursday thru Sunday May 7 to May 24 at 8:00pm at 45 Church St., New Haven, CT. This unique site-specific production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama deals with money, greed, job loss and the elusive American Dream.

Talk of money returns to the former bank building located at 45 Church Street in New Haven. However, this time, the bitingly comic words written by Mamet will be given voice by a group of experienced local actors. As a distinct departure from its typical performance venues, Glengarry Glen Ross will be staged by the New Haven Theater Company in the beautiful lobby of 45 Church Street, the iconic Greek revival-style bank building. Built in 1907, the building was most recently home to Wachovia Bank’s flagship branch in New Haven. The space was made available to the theater group by the property’s new owners, the Rose Smart Growth Investment Fund I, L.P. and Hurley 45-55 Church Street, LLC. Acquired in December 2008, the new owners are currently repositioning and greening the property as the preferred downtown New Haven alternative for commercial, institutional, retail and cultural tenants interested in leasing green office, retail, restaurant, educational, performance or cultural space.

The cast for Glengarry Glen Ross includes Ian Alderman (New Haven), Peter Chenot (New Haven), Erich Greene (New Haven), George Kulp (North Haven), Steve Scarpa (New Haven), J. Kevin Smith (Norwalk) and Mike Smith (Hamden). Stage Manager is Jessica Peiffer, with the direction and design of T. Paul Lowry (New Haven).
